Tim Warfield-WUSF All Night Jazz Focus Artist of the Week

This week on All Night Jazz, we’ll focus on saxophonist Tim Warfield.

Born on July 2, 1965, in York, Pennsylvania, Warfield picked up his first saxophone at age nine. He caught his first big professional break with CBS recording artist and trumpeter Marlon Jones in the early ‘90s. Subsequently he was a member of Christian McBride’s group from 1994 to 1999. In 1999 he joined trumpeter Nicholas Payton’s band

In 2006 he joined forces with trumpeter Terrell Stafford for a very fruitful association. Stafford is on the faculty at Temple University and Warfield has now joined him there as the coordinator for the jazz graduate studies program. Warfield is also a board member for the Central Pennsylvania Friends of Jazz as well as an artist-in-residence at Messiah College in Grantham , Pa.

We’ll hear the soulful saxophone of Tim Warfield all week long, on All Night Jazz.
