WUSF All Night Jazz Focus Artist of the Week: Antonio Adolfo
This week on All Night Jazz, we’ll focus on the pianist, arranger and jazz educator, Antonio Adolfo. Born February 10, 1947, in Brazil, Adolfo started playing the violin at the age of seven before taking up the piano at 15. He became a professional musician at the age of 17.
In the ‘60s Adolfo led several trios in Rio de Janeiro where he picked up his arranging and compositional skills. During this period he also accompanied the well-known Brazilian singer, Elis Regina.
Adolfo’s songs have been recorded by Sergio Mendes, Stevie Wonder, Herb Alpert and many others. He later studied with David Baker at the University of Indiana. The Grammy nominated Adolfo has over 25 recordings as a leader.
He currently resides in South Florida.
