St. Pete Sax Quartet Performs Live in the WUSF Studio

The St. Pete Sax Quartet is a 4-piece jazz band out of St. Petersburg, Florida. They feature Soprano Sax, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax along with musical accompaniments. They perform all kinds of genres from classic jazz to today's pop music and are noted for performing in hotels, museums, small clubs, private parties, and weddings.

Bios:

Laura Montgomery- Alto Sax and Vocals

Laura Montgomery plays alto sax and sings with The St. Petersburg Sax Quartet. She is originally from New Jersey where she worked as a musician and music teacher. She is co-author with Emile DeCosmo to several music books including The Path to Improvisation, The Diatonic Cycle, and The Cycle of Fifths. She currently teaches music in the Pinellas County School district.

 

Cindy Paauw – Tenor Sax

 Cindy learned to play piano, clarinet, flute and saxophone in elementary school. Immediately after graduating from St Petersburg’s Lakewood High School, she joined a European Tour Band, playing saxophone and performing all summer.  Cindy studied music and saxophone at Florida State University and obtained a degree in Music Theory. Cindy also plays with other groups in the St Petersburg area including the SPC Wind Symphony and the Awesome Original Second Time Arounders Marching Band.

 

Larry Cangelosi – Soprano Sax 

Chicago born; Larry began his professional career in high school. While attending the University of Illinois, he played with many top professionals. Performances including Newport and New Orleans Jazz Festivals, US State Department tours of Europe, the Iron Curtain and the Soviet Union. Larry's performed with Aretha Franklin, Joan Rivers, The Temptations, Sarah Vaughn, The Four Tops, Steve Lawrence, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey Orchestras, Glenn Miller Orchestra, Connie Francis, Tommy Tedesco, Hal Blaine, Oliver Nelson, Lincoln Center performances of South Pacific and Fred Waring's Pennsylvanians.

 

David Busch – Baritone Sax, Manager SPSQ

As the biggest kid in Seventh Grade, David was handed a Baritone Sax.  David attended New York’s High School of Music and Art. He went on to become a History teacher while continuing to perform in NYC and the Hudson Valley.  David has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, The Newport Jazz Festival, and many clubs and New York venues. Relocating to St. Pete in 2013, David is the Baritone Sax player in the well-known Tom Kats Jazz Orchestra.
